WELCOME TO UGANDA

Uganda, located in East Africa, is not usually the first country that comes to mind when planning a safari.  Why is that?  Uganda has all the wildlife associated with Kenya and Tanzania (except wildebeests), plus mountain gorillas, lowland gorillas, chimpanzees, and 13 other primate species that you will see nowhere else in the world.  And birds?!  Uganda is a birder’s paradise, with more than 1000 identified species to delight and frustrate the most dedicated birder.

It’s true that Uganda is often overlooked as a safari destination in favor of our near neighbours, who get all the attention, and we’re happy for them.  But being more well-known, they are also more heavily traveled.

So, consider Uganda. Let us tell you why.

Uganda is a land blessed with abundance. Winston Churchill called it “The Pearl of Africa”, which is perhaps an understatement considering its vast array of riches. Uganda has savannahs, mountains (with glaciers!), so many lakes, even crater lakes.  We have the source of the Nile at Jinja, and the legendary Rwenzori Mountains, called the “Mountains of the Moon”, first written about by Diogenese in 50CE.

A country of huge diversity, it is home to the endangered Mountain Gorillas, and is a primate playground. The 10 national parks and wildlife areas host Africa’s “Big 7”: Lion, Elephant, Rhino, Leopard, Buffalo, Gorilla, and Chimpanzee.

The Equatorial climate provides permanent year-round temperatures averaging 27 degrees Celsius, yet the Rwenzori mountain range, Africa’s highest, is snow-capped. Uganda is also the source of the world’s second-longest river, the Nile, which starts its journey in Jinja, out of Africa’s largest lake, Victoria, dotted with tropical islands and sandy white beaches.

Uganda has a network of 10 national parks that protect some amazing wildlife. They are:

  • Mt. Elgon
  • Semuliki
